10 Habits Of Highly Effective Christians

Being an effective Christian means manifesting Christ’s character and doing His work here on Earth. One of the habits of highly effective Christians is having the mind of Christ, having their thoughts and actions based on God’s Word (1 Corinthians 2:16). An effective Christian is committed to a relationship with Christ, walks with the Holy Spirit, obeys God’s commandments, spreads the Good News, serves God’s people and influences others to know Christ.

Below are ten habits of highly effective Christians with biblical references to help us in our walk with God.

HABIT 1:

LIVING A LIFE OF PRAYER

Effective Christians know the value of prayer (Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Jesus Christ, our ultimate example, was a prayerful person (Mark 1:35). We must develop the habit of daily, dedicated prayer time.

HABIT 2:

STUDYING AND MEDITATING ON GOD’S WORD

Studying God’s Word helps us know Him and His will (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Joshua 1:8). Effective Christians daily read, study and meditate on God’s Word and apply it to their lives.

HABIT 3:

CONSTANTLY ABIDING IN CHRIST

Effective Christians constantly seek to be connected to Christ (John 15:5). This abiding connection with Christ strengthens us and keeps us fruitful (Psalms 1:2-3).

HABIT 4:

OBEYING GOD’S COMMANDMENTS

Obedience to God is crucial in the Christian journey. God’s commands are for our good, leading us to a fruitful and fulfilling life (John 14:15, Deuteronomy 10:12-13).

HABIT 5:

SERVING OTHERS

Following Christ’s example, effective Christians understand the value of service (Matthew 20:26-28). This includes giving of our time, talents and treasures to help others (Proverbs 11:25).

HABIT 6:

HAVING A THANKFUL HEART

Having a thankful heart, regardless of circumstances, is a vital Christian habit (1 Thessalonians 5:18, Psalm 100:4). This fosters joy, peace, and resilience.

HABIT 7:

LIVING IN UNITY WITH OTHER BELIEVERS

Effective Christians promote unity in the body of Christ. We should work towards maintaining peace and unity (Ephesians 4:3, Psalm 133:1).

HABIT 8:

TRUSTING IN GOD’S PROVIDENCE

Effective Christians trust in God’s timing and His plan for their lives (Proverbs 3:5-6, Romans 8:28).

SPREADING THE GOSPEL

Effective Christians share their faith with others (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8). Spreading the Gospel is the Great Commission given to every Christian.

HABIT 10:

PURSUING GODLY CHARACTER

Lastly, effective Christians constantly strive for growth in godly character traits such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Peter 1:5-7).

Embracing these habits helps us live more fruitful lives as Christians. These habits are not the product of human efforts, but are the result of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. As we seek to draw closer to God and cultivate these habits, we must rely on the grace of God and the power of His Spirit to effect these changes in us.
